More on MashLab
Hosted
by DJ Rob Vember and conducted by expert producer, Jon Savage, 5FM’s
audience are invited to collaborate with their favourite South African
band or musician. The artists will then go into the studio to write and
record a brand new track, based on the theme voted for by the public.
This
project allows some of South Africa’s best musicians to produce the
best in music entertainment, as well as possibly seeing remarkable
collaborations.
The winning theme for this particular MashLab came from Alison Canter…
Hi guys
I know the deadline is up for this month’s MashLab, so feel free to use this for next month’s one!
I
think you could write a song about music and how you can lose yourself
within it. That feeling you get when you listen to music and it takes
you to strange and wonderful places. Warm and fuzzy places! That feeling
of being on the dance floor, with the room spinning and losing yourself
into the people around you.
When
we are kids, music inspires you to travel the country, travel the
world, and travel the universe. With two different artists such as the
legend Zakes and Taxi Violence, they come from such different
backgrounds, but still have the same experience of music.
What to expect
Taxi Violence and Zakes are currently in pre-production at Kill City Blues Studios in Cape Town. The track should be completed early in March, and ready to be unleashed for the 5FM audience.

10 years of Taxi Violence
The boys are celebrating their 10th
anniversary year in 2014, and planning to do it in style. April will
see them heading for the studio to record a brand new album, which they
plan to release in September. And if this Facebook post is anything to go by, Taxi fans and audiophiles could be very excited about the possibility of a vinyl release.
The band already started off their big year with a bang at Up the Creek 2014. You can watch the entire live performance over here.
Taxi
Violence will be on their way to RAMfest 2014 this coming weekend. The
band will be performing at the Cape Town, as well as the Johannesburg
leg of the festival. Go to www.ramfest.co.za for more information.
